Title: Awakening

Description: The awakening and explosion of creative ideas, spiraling away from the wasteland of a lost mojo.

Title: Violence Against Women

Description: A protest against constant and ongoing violence against women all over the world. Seen from left to right are the different skin colours affected by violence. Then there is broken skin, congealed blood and finally, in some cases, death expressed by the black "flat-line"

Title: Scram!

Description: A juvenile bateleur is drinking water at a watering hole in the Kgalagadi Nature reserve when a secretary bird comes in to land. The bateleur gets a fright and takes flight but to me it seems as if the secretary bird is telling the bateleur to scram! This of course will never happen in nature.

Title: Bushfire

Description: I am fascinated by the beauty that destructive fires cause. Various techniques were used such as weaving, paper piecing, machine appliqu‚ and free motion machine embroidery.

Title: Shattered

Description: Jade, orange and purple, the colours of extreme emotional pain.

Title: Senseless

Description: A protest quilt made for the challenge category at the South African National Festival in Bloemfontein. Based on an advert on the destruction of the habitat of a certain bird in the cape, I interpreted it as the destruction of the rhino population for their horns all over the world. It is only a matter of time before they will all be destroyed.

Title: No More?

Description: A protest quilt made for the challenge issued by Golden Rand Guild and sold at a silent auction with proceeds donated to the Save the Rhino Foundation. The background is slashed fabric in the colours the challenge dictated and the rhino head is synthetic fabrics that were fused together and free motion machine embroidered.

Title: Destructive Beauty

Description: I am fascinated by the beauty that destructive fires cause.

Title: Below the Surface

Description: My argument against fracking in the Karoo, The black and red backdrop to the synthetic silk layer, depicts a damaged landscape that will never recover if this brutal rape of our beautiful country is ever allowed.

Description: The diaspora that takes place when unrest starts in a country and people move away from the centre of violence to look for greener pastures.
